2027: I’ll Gladly Accept Any Role Tinubu Assigns to Me — Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, says he will wholeheartedly accept any responsibility President Bola Ahmed Tinubu entrusts to him ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja during preparations for the zonal public hearing of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Senator Barau stated, “Whatever the President asks me to do, I will do it 100 per cent.”

His remarks come a day after he advised a group advocating for his candidacy as Tinubu’s running mate in 2027 to instead channel their efforts toward supporting the president’s governance agenda.

Addressing the issue further, Barau said, “It is premature to start discussing such matters. I told the groups pushing this narrative—though I don’t even know them—I appreciate their belief in me. But I urged them not to waste energy on what is currently irrelevant. Rather, they should focus on supporting the President’s development agenda.

“When the time comes, we’ll talk politics. Right now, it’s time for governance.”

Barau described President Tinubu as his political mentor and someone to whom he remains deeply loyal.

“Mr. President is my political father. You would be surprised by all he has done for me and my people. When the time comes and he asks me to take on any responsibility, I will do it without hesitation. I am 100 per cent loyal to him,” he said.

He credited Tinubu for resolving internal party challenges in Kano State, facilitating his return to the Senate in 2023, and supporting his emergence as Deputy Senate President.

“If at any time he says, ‘I want you to work with me,’ my answer will be, ‘Thank you, sir.’ I will carry out any role he gives me. The president is the father of the nation. Make no mistake about that,” Barau added.

He also emphasised the ideological unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting shared values of loyalty and progressivism.

“Our destinies are linked. We belong to the same political family — we are Progressives. I am a progressive to the core, and we uphold loyalty. I am 100 per cent loyal to Mr. President. In 2027, I will do whatever he asks of me.”
