The newly inaugurated 5th Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Kano Chapter, Engr. Hauwa Ibrahim Khaleel, has pledged to reposition the chapter for greater professional impact, with a strong focus on innovation, inclusivity and national development.
Khaleel made the pledge on Saturday during her inauguration ceremony, where she expressed appreciation to members for the confidence reposed in her, describing her emergence as a collective responsibility rather than a personal achievement.
“I stand before you today with deep humility and immense gratitude, accepting the responsibility of serving as the 5th Chairman of this great chapter. I am truly honoured by the trust you have placed in me, and I do not take it lightly,” she said.
She commended the outgoing leadership for what she described as a solid foundation for the continued growth of the institute.
“I wish to sincerely appreciate the outgoing Chairman Engr. Dr Ibrahim Abba MNIEEE, MNSE, Engr. Dr A.T Sulaiman and the entire executive committee for their dedication, leadership, and the solid foundation they have laid,” she stated, adding that her administration would “build upon these achievements and continue the journey of excellence.”
The new chairman said the theme of the inauguration, “Safe Solar Systems: Engineering Standards, Field Practices and Risk Control,” was timely, given Nigeria’s ongoing transition to renewable energy.
“It is a call to action. It challenges engineers, regulators, and practitioners to prioritize safety, uphold standards, and adopt best practices in solar energy deployment. In doing so, it safeguards investments, protects lives, and ensures that solar energy remains a reliable pillar of Nigeria’s energy future,” she said.
Khaleel outlined her administration’s focus areas to include professional development and capacity building, industry collaboration and policy engagement, as well as inclusivity and mentorship.
“We will promote a culture of inclusiveness, encourage active participation of women and young professionals, and establish structured mentorship platforms to nurture the next generation of engineering leaders,” she added.
She also pledged to uphold integrity, transparency and teamwork in her leadership approach.
“As Chairman, I am committed to leading with integrity, transparency, and accountability. I believe in teamwork, and I look forward to working closely with the executive committee and all members to achieve our shared goals,” she said.
Khaleel dedicated her emergence to the advancement of the engineering profession, calling for sustained cooperation from members to strengthen the Kano Chapter of the institute.
