5000 patients to benefit medical outreach offer by Zamfara Senator

From Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau

A Senator representing Zamfara West senatorial district, Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura has engaged 30 Medical Doctors to treat over 5000 patients free of charge in Kaura Namoda local government area of Zamfara State.

The beneficiaries comprised of groups of patients with eye problems that included refractive errors, cataracts, optic nerve disorders, glaucoma and retinal disorders, while others with diabetes and testicular problems.

The patients were derived from Zurmi, Shinkafi, Birnin Magaji and Kaura Namoda local government areas under the senatorial district.

Speaking with newsmen at the general hospital Kaura Namoda, Dr. Kamal S. Umar of Sight Savers who specializes in eye treatment, said about 3000 patients with problems have already been screened and were ready for various operations.

Earlier, a Coordinator of the Outreach, Abba Isa Kaura, said the Senator had considered the hardship situation under which the patients could not afford hospital charges for their treatments.

“We learnt that, unscreened patients that were not even in the list have out numbered the targeted patients, therefore, we are now contacting the Senator to expand the Outreach with a view to accommodate more beneficiaries”, Isa Kaura has added.
