Adamawa: ADSIEC Announces July For LG Elections

The Adamawa state government has fixed a date for the conduct of local government areas election in the state.
Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), Mohammed Umar announced the development at a press briefing in Yola Yesterday stressing that the government has fixed Saturday 13th July 2024 for conduct of local Councils election.
“As you are aware, the tenure of the Local Government Councils has expired and it is the responsibility of the Commission to conduct new elections to fill in the vacances as promulgated by law.
“Consequently, the Commission at its meeting held on the 27th May, 2024 fixed Saturday 13th July 2024 as the tentative date for the conduct of the elections. Notices of the election into the offices of Chairman and Councillors shall be published at the SIEC Headquarters and Local Government offices”. Said Umar.
Umar explained that, the timetable and schedule of activities and timelines for the exercise will be released within the next two weeks noting that notices of the election into the offices of chairmen and councillors shall be published at the ADSIEC headquarters and local government offices.
“Timetable/schedule of activities and timelines for the conduct of the elections will be released within the week”.He maintained
Umar added that exercise would be conducted in various offices following the expiration of the tenure of the former council executives.
“The commission’s mandate to organize, conduct and supervise election is in the fulfillment of the constitution”.The Chairman maintained.
However, some political pundits interviewed on the development ascribed it not to be unconnected with a clarion call by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) on the Federal government to scrap the State Independent Electoral Commission across the country.
Recalled that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Five days ago, 24th May 2024, inaugurated new members for the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
