CITAD launches initiative to reduce abandoned projects in Kano

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched a new initiative aimed at reducing the number of abandoned projects in Kano State.

The Center Senior Program Officer, Isah Garba revealed this at the inception meeting on Monday.

According to him, the project focuses on enhancing citizen participation in governance processes and ensuring accountability from state actors to complete abandoned projects in the state.

“We have gathered participants from eight local governments, including Gwale, Sumaila, Dala, Nasarawa, Fagge, Bichi, Tarauni, and Kano Municipal, to introduce this project and collaborate on achieving our desired outcomes,” Garba explained.

“We want to use the stakeholders to reduce the number of abandoned projects through advocacy to the government,” Garba noted.

“We realize that a lot of public resources are being wasted on abandoned projects. These are structures that the community needs when completed,” Garba stated.

He added that the list of the abandoned projects will be compiled and the stakeholders will work towards their completion.

“The project will also involve creating a demand charter that will reflect the needs of the community members which will be presented to the appropriation committees of the State house of Assembly and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to ensure that the 2025 appropriation bill reflects the actual needs of the people, rather than decisions made without consulting the beneficiaries,” the program officer added.

He urged citizens to engage actively in governance beyond merely voting on election days.
