NANS Condemns Destruction of Kano’s Digital Innovation Park

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed deep sorrow and concern following the recent arson and looting of the Digital Innovation Park in Kano. The facility, a cornerstone of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s Technical Talent Accelerator (3MTT) initiative, was set to launch next week.

Comr. Sadiq SK Zango, the National Director of Research and Innovation for NANS, voiced the organization’s profound dismay at the loss of the park. Designed as a state-of-the-art center for nurturing technical talent and fostering innovation, the Digital Innovation Park was poised to advance technology education and create job opportunities across Nigeria.

It aimed to serve as a platform for young Nigerians to develop and showcase their skills and was set to host the Buildathon Holiday Maker Programme, an event dedicated to equipping secondary school students with hands-on tech skills and fostering a culture of creativity.

“This incident represents a severe setback for over 50 million Nigerian students and the nation’s broader efforts to cultivate a vibrant digital economy,” said Zango. “The destruction of this facility is a significant loss, impeding our country’s progress in technology and innovation and depriving many young people of invaluable opportunities for growth and employment.”

NANS has condemned the act of vandalism in the strongest possible terms and is calling for a comprehensive investigation to hold those responsible accountable. The organization is urging Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honorable Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, and all stakeholders, including government bodies, the private sector, and civil society, to collaborate in restoring and rebuilding the facility.

“The continuation of initiatives that support the educational and professional development of Nigerian students is imperative,” added Zango.

The National Directorate of Research and Innovation for NANS remains committed to advocating for the interests and welfare of Nigerian students, vowing to support and champion initiatives that promote innovation, education, and employment opportunities.
