Police Arrest 30-Year-Old Man Over Attempted Suicide in Adamawa

A 30-year-old man, Abdullahi Muhammad, has been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police for attempting suicide.
The suspect, on Sunday, September 29, 2024, climbed a 33KVA high-tension pole in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, threatening to jump unless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu resigned from his position.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, S.P Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest. He stated that operatives from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Police Headquarters were deployed to the scene, where they successfully rescued the suspect.
Nguroje further explained that Muhammad had climbed the pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway, threatening to end his life for reasons known only to him.
“The Adamawa State Police Command, on September 29, 2024, arrested Abdullahi Muhammad, a 30-year-old indigene of Gashaka Local Government Area in Taraba State, for attempting suicide in Mayo-Belwa,” Nguroje said.
He added, “The Commissioner of Police deployed operatives from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters to the scene, and thankfully, the suspect was rescued and placed in protective custody.”
The PPRO also stated that the suspect is currently under investigation and will be charged to court for attempting suicide. “The Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, including preventing acts of self-harm,” Nguroje concluded.
