Again, Dujimaan Katsina Bags Award, Promises to Support Education
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has been presented with the “Excellence in Leadership” Award by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU), Katsina, Katsina state.
Sardauna Francis, Special Assistant on Media to the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.
The SUG chapter of the state-owned university presented the award to the first Dujiman Katsina during its Public Lecture and Award Presentation Night with the theme: ‘Combating Security Challenges in Katsina State: The Roles of Students’, held at the University’s auditorium on Thursday evening.
Presenting the award to the member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, the UMYU SUG President, Comrade Musa Ibrahim, described Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, as an outstanding young federal lawmaker who has distinguished himself in the lawmaking business.
He said Ahmed was conferred with the award in recognition of his humanitarian gesture across divides, sacrifice, dedication and contributions to the growth and development of education in the University and his constituency.
A statement by Sardauna Francis, the Special Assistant on Media to the federal lawmaker, says Ahmed has spearheaded initiatives that have revolutionised the educational landscape of the Musawa/Matazu federal constituency.
He has built, renovated and equipped more than 20 classrooms across the constituency and granted scholarships to over 2,000 vulnerable students, thereby helping them to gain access to education that their families otherwise could not afford.
The lawmaker equally provided N35 million non-refundable business grants to 70 people in his constituency, facilitated access to agricultural inputs, and created employment opportunities for hundreds of constituents, including women, religious and traditional leaders.
In cushioning the plight of people living with disabilities in the constituency, the lawmaker, in collaboration with a reputable non-governmental organisation, recently distributed 100 special tricycle-wheelchairs to them.
Receiving the award, Ahmed, represented by the Special Assistant to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Support Groups and Associations, Alhaji Aminu Ubale-Funtua, expressed gratitude to the students’ union for finding him worthy of the excellence of leadership award.
He promised to continue to prioritise education and initiate policies and programmes that would enhance the lives of youth and students, adding that the 10th National Assembly will initiate student-friendly programmes to boost the standard of education and ensure stability on campuses.
The House Committee Chairman on Interior, however, appealed to the Nigerian students not to lose faith in the Nigerian project, saying challenges currently beleaguering the nation are passing phases.
