NNPP Deserves a Leader, Not Dungurawa’s Rash Decisions

The recent baseless allegations made by Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, the Kano state Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), regarding Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, have shed light on his troubling leadership style. Dungurawa accused Senator Kawu of accepting $80 million from Hon. Abubakar Kabiru Bichi to manipulate the 2023 Kano gubernatorial election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Such reckless claims are not only unfounded but also paint a portrait of a leader who is unprofessional, uneducated, and politically arrogant.

Dungurawa’s allegations against party figures are neither based on evidence nor grounded in reason, but instead appear to be the product of sentiment and personal vendettas. His constant attacks on the party’s bigwigs have revealed a leader who is unwilling to engage in constructive dialogue or uphold the values of professionalism. Rather than fostering unity within the party, he thrives on division, undermining the credibility and stability of NNPP in the process.

In addition to these damaging accusations, Dungurawa’s recent suspension of key party members, including the Secretary to State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and State Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol, only adds to his growing list of politically motivated actions. The alleged “anti-party” behavior he accuses these individuals of is nothing more than a political fiction, created to further Dungurawa’s own personal agenda. Such actions are indicative of a leader who is driven more by arrogance than a commitment to the party’s cause.

For NNPP to thrive in Kano state, the party needs a leader who is not only educated and professional but also capable of building relationships and fostering collaboration. Dungurawa’s leadership, marked by petty accusations and a lack of political maturity, does not align with the values of Kwankwasiyya, a movement historically associated with intellectual development and the promotion of higher education. Thousands of youth in Kano have benefited from scholarships sponsored by both Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and the current state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and these young people deserve a leader who can guide them with integrity, vision, and professionalism.

The role of a political party chairman requires a combination of qualities that inspire confidence and unity. Dungurawa’s conduct has shown that he lacks many of these essential traits, including integrity, diplomacy, political acumen, and effective communication skills. Leadership demands more than arrogance and rash decisions; it requires a deep understanding of governance, public policy, and the ability to unite people for a common cause. Sadly, Dungurawa’s leadership style appears to be the antithesis of what NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement stand for.

NNPP deserves a chairman who is not only educated and capable but also someone who embodies the principles of good governance. The party requires a leader who can navigate the complex political landscape of Kano state with wisdom, diplomacy, and emotional intelligence. It is crucial for the NNPP to recognize that continued leadership by Dungurawa could jeopardize the party’s credibility and alienate its supporters.

I strongly advise Hashimu Dungurawa to retract his defamatory allegations against Senator Kawu Sumaila and other party members. The baseless accusations he has leveled against them not only tarnish their reputations but also weaken the party’s unity and morale. For the good of NNPP and the future of Kwankwasiyya in Kano, it is time for a change in leadership. The party deserves someone who can lead with integrity, vision, and a commitment to the people of Kano.
