NDLEA, NAFDAC boards not dissolved – FG
In a recent development, the Federal Government has clarified that the Boards of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) are not dissolved, contrary to earlier reports.
The clarification was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume. The statement emphasized that the two boards are exempted from the dissolution of the Boards of Federal government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies, which was announced on Monday.
The statement, signed by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the SGF Office, on behalf of George Akume, reads: “Further to the directive on the dissolution of Boards of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-owned Companies, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has clarified that the Boards of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC) are exempted from such dissolution.”
It is worth recalling that President Bola Tinubu had approved the dissolution of all boards of Federal Government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies on Monday. The decision was made in the exercise of constitutional powers and in the public interest.
However, the SGF Office clarified that this directive does not apply to the boards of the NDLEA and NAFDAC. The exemption of these two agencies suggests that their boards will continue to function as usual.
The dissolution directive, which came into effect on Friday, June 16, 2023, is aimed at streamlining the governance structure of various government entities.
