Yobe Gov’t Procures Agricultural Machinery To Boost Food Production
From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
The Yobe State Government has procured 40 brand-new tractors to enhance food production and promote large-scale mechanized farming in the state.
According to a press statement issued by Buba Garba Lawan, the Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Commissioner of Agriculture, Hon. Ali Mustapha Goniri, disclosed this during an inspection of the tractors in Damaturu, the state capital.
Hon. Goniri emphasized that the tractors would boost rainfed and irrigation farming activities, ensuring food sufficiency for the state’s growing population.
He noted that Yobe State is blessed with vast fertile arable land suitable for cultivating various food and cash crops such as cowpeas, sesame seeds, soybeans, groundnuts, cotton, rice, wheat, millet, and sorghum in commercial quantities.
The commissioner further highlighted that the surplus agricultural produce would create opportunities for establishing agro-allied industries, which could enhance the state’s revenue base, improve per capita income, and alleviate poverty among farmers.
Governor Buni’s agricultural revolution aims to ensure adequate food supply and provide raw materials for industrial growth. Hon. Goniri remarked, “Any nation that can feed its population has solved 50 percent of its problems. The remaining challenges can be addressed through economic development to uplift the living standards of the people.”
