KACRAN Appeals for Increased Funding for Livestock Ministry to Address Insecurity

From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has urged the National Assembly to prioritize funding for the Ministry of Livestock Development to address insecurity and promote national stability.

In a statement signed by KACRAN’s National President, Khalid Muhammad Bello, the association emphasized the importance of supporting the newly established ministry.

According to KACRAN, this initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aims to resolve conflicts between herders and farmers, enhance food security, and boost economic productivity.

The ministry also holds the potential to create millions of jobs and attract investments in the livestock sector.

KACRAN expressed confidence in the leadership of Honourable Alhaji Idi Muktar, a seasoned livestock farmer; Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, a veterinary doctor and Permanent Secretary; and Mrs. Winnie Lai Solarin, Director of Animal Husbandry Services.

The association stressed that adequate funding is crucial for the ministry to fulfill its mandate effectively.

Highlighting the plight of rural communities who often lack access to government services, KACRAN underscored the importance of ensuring the ministry reaches these underserved areas.

They warned that insufficient funding could hinder the ministry’s operations, affecting economic growth and national security.

The association called on the National Assembly to allocate significantly higher funding to the ministry in the 2025 budget. This, they argued, would pave the way for increased agricultural production, job creation, and lasting peace between herders and farmers.

KACRAN also extended gratitude to President Tinubu for establishing the ministry and urged Northern Governors to create similar ministries in their states to further support the livestock sector.
