The Yobe State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated Governor Mai Mala Buni on his emergence as the Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.
In a statement, the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Rajab Mohammed, described Buni’s appointment as a significant milestone for Yobe State, the Northeast region, and Nigeria as a whole. He expressed confidence that Buni’s leadership would contribute to improving livelihoods in the Lake Chad Basin, an area deeply affected by the 15-year Boko Haram insurgency.
“The governor’s leadership of the forum will bring much-needed transformation to the region, fostering stability and development for the affected states and provinces,” Rajab stated.
He also commended Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State for providing a hospitable and conducive environment to host the three-day meeting at the Indimi International Conference Centre, Maiduguri.
Rajab further acknowledged the contributions of key stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, Commissioner of Information Abdullahi Bego, and Director General of Press and Media Affairs Mohammed Mamman.
He also praised the efforts of members of the National and State Assemblies, security agencies, media professionals, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, youth, and women’s groups for their support in ensuring the success of the forum. According to him, their collective efforts played a vital role in the meeting’s outcomes, which culminated in the release of a 13-point communiqué aimed at addressing critical regional challenges.
