The construction of the Fika-Malori Road and the development of a modern market in Potiskum the commercial hub of Yobe State by the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has no doubt fulfilled the long-standing dreams of the benefitting communities.
According to a statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Buni, the road linking Malori, a vibrant agricultural community, to the outside world had for years posed monumental challenges for the movement of people, goods, and services.
“During the rainy season,” the statement noted, “many residents were practically cut off, unable to either enter or leave their communities.”
That unfortunate reality is now a thing of the past. With the road nearing completion, the hopes of the people are being realized, as the project has already triggered a boost in socio-economic activities across the region.
The communities have also expressed optimism that the road will increase agricultural productivity and ease of trade, thanks to improved access and mobility.
In Potiskum, a new chapter is being written in the state’s commercial history. The ultra-modern market, now ready for commissioning, is expected to significantly transform the business landscape.
For decades, the business environment in Potiskum was far from ideal, with traders operating in makeshift stalls under thatched roofs, lacking basic infrastructure and convenience.
The new market is set to bring relief to the bustling business community by addressing environmental challenges and providing a dignified space for commerce.
Furthermore, the establishment of a sesame seed processing plant in Potiskum built to meet international standards is expected to attract global buyers. This move will not only empower local farmers and traders but also stimulate large-scale commercial activity in the area.
