Counter-Terrorism Centre Applauds Zamfara Governor’s Efforts in Tackling Insecurity

A delegation from the National Counter Terrorism Centre has commended Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for his administration’s ongoing efforts in addressing insecurity and banditry across the state.

The high-level team, led by officials from the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) unit, visited the governor at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Gusau on Thursday as part of a nationwide strategic advocacy engagement.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Counter Terrorism Centre plays a vital role in providing leadership and strategic direction to the Armed Forces, security agencies, and intelligence units across Nigeria—aligning with the mandate of the National Security Adviser.

Governor Lawal, while welcoming the delegation, stressed the significance of the partnership with the centre in curbing violent crimes. He noted that resolving the security challenges in Zamfara would go a long way in improving the security situation across northern Nigeria.

“I keep saying that if you make a conscious effort to handle Zamfara effectively as far as insecurity is concerned, you will solve 80% of the security challenges in the North,” the governor said.

He further reaffirmed Zamfara’s commitment to support national counter-terrorism initiatives, stating the state was ready to provide counterpart funding for related projects, including those backed by the European Union.

Governor Lawal also emphasized the importance of having a clear implementation timeline and announced the formation of a dedicated team that would liaise with the Counter Terrorism Centre.

Ambassador Mairo Musa Abbas, who led the delegation, said the visit was undertaken on behalf of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the National Counter Terrorism Coordinator, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Garba Laka.

“We want to thank you once again for your hospitality in hosting us in Zamfara State and for the leadership you provided to the people. We look forward to collaborating to ensure that Zamfara becomes a beacon of hope in the fight against banditry,” she said.
