The Kano State Government has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for promptly launching an investigation into the fatal accident that claimed the lives of 22 athletes returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, gave the commendation on Monday while receiving a delegation from the FRSC led by Zonal Commander Assistant Corps Marshal Ahmed Umar at the Government House, Kano.

Comrade Gwarzo expressed deep concern over the recurring fatalities along the same accident-prone route and emphasized the urgent need for lasting solutions to prevent future tragedies.

He assured the FRSC of the state’s readiness to receive and act on the findings of the investigation once submitted.

The Deputy Governor also appreciated the FRSC’s condolence visit, describing it as a meaningful show of concern and solidarity with the families of the deceased and the people of Kano State.

Speaking earlier, Assistant Corps Marshal Ahmed Umar, who oversees FRSC operations in Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kaduna States, said the visit was on behalf of the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, to extend the agency’s heartfelt condolences to the Kano State Government and its people over the tragic loss.

He confirmed that the FRSC had already commenced a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the accident.

“We will compile our observations and recommendations not only for our national headquarters but also for the Kano State Government to help prevent such tragedies in the future,” Umar stated.

He further noted that the accident site has become notorious for fatal crashes, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between agencies and state governments to address persistent safety concerns.
