Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, on Tuesday presided over a high-level security council meeting in Damaturu, with heads of all security agencies in attendance to assess the current security landscape and chart new strategies for improvement.
In a statement signed by Mamman Mohammad, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, the meeting reviewed the security situation across the state and identified areas requiring urgent intervention.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Affairs, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), announced the expansion of the state’s local security outfit, Operation Haba Maza, to include other national security agencies, transforming it into a joint security force.
“From now on, Operation Haba Maza will be deployed not only in Damaturu but also in Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, Geidam, and Buni Yadi,” Gen. Abdulsalam disclosed.
He explained that the expansion aims to bolster internal security across all regions of the state. He also revealed that Governor Buni has approved increased logistical support for security agencies to enhance their operational effectiveness.
Addressing recent concerns over market closures, Gen. Abdulsalam clarified that the temporary shutdown of three weekly markets was a proactive measure taken to protect lives and prevent potential security threats.
“There are ongoing operations in those areas, and security agencies are taking preventive steps to avert any surprises,” he stated.
He called on residents to support and cooperate with the security agencies, assuring them that both the state government and the security apparatus are united in their resolve to sustain and improve the relative peace and safety in the state.
