KNSG Submits Constitution Review Memoranda to National Assembly

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has submitted a comprehensive memorandum on behalf of the state government and the people of Kano at the North West Centre “A” Public Hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review.
The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Kaduna, brought together stakeholders from Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina States to discuss key constitutional reforms.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the citizens of Kano State, Comrade Gwarzo reaffirmed the state’s strong commitment to the constitutional amendment process.
He presented proposals aimed at addressing longstanding national concerns and advancing democratic governance.
These proposals reflect Kano State’s position on issues such as the creation of additional states and new local government areas, granting full autonomy to local governments, the establishment of state police, and a review of the revenue allocation formula.
The state also advocates for the strengthening of traditional institutions, improved representation of women in both state and national assemblies, as well as comprehensive electoral reforms.
Additionally, Kano State supports the re-adoption of Nigeria’s original national anthem and the recognition of Independence Day as the official swearing-in date for elected officeholders.
Describing the memorandum as a genuine reflection of the aspirations of Kano citizens, Gwarzo explained that the document was developed through broad-based consultations across the state.
He commended the House of Representatives Committee for creating an inclusive platform for public engagement, emphasizing that such dialogue is essential for shaping a constitution that truly reflects the will of the people.
Comrade Gwarzo underscoredu the importance of the constitutional review process, calling it a golden opportunity to reimagine and reshape the legal framework of the nation in alignment with current realities.
He concluded by reaffirming Kano State’s commitment to the pursuit of a united, just, and democratic Nigeria, urging lawmakers to ensure that the voices of the people guide the outcome of the review process.
