Kano Assembly Receives Governor’s Requests on Anti-Corruption Commission Chair, Supplementary Budget Bill

The Kano State House of Assembly has received two official communications from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, seeking the lawmakers’ approval on key governance matters.

During plenary on Monday, Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore read the letters, which were later confirmed in a statement by his spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai.

One of the requests is the nomination of Saidu Yahaya for confirmation as Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission. Governor Yusuf cited Yahaya’s merit, integrity, and proven service record as reasons for the choice.

In another letter, the governor sought the Assembly’s approval of the 2025 Proposed Supplementary Amendment Bill. He said the amendment is necessary to fund ongoing infrastructural and urban renewal projects, as well as newly created ministries, departments, and agencies aimed at boosting development.

Following the review of the 2024 audited accounts, an excess of ₦81 billion was recorded, in addition to the ₦29 billion earlier captured as the opening balance in the 2025 approved budget. The supplementary budget proposal is to be funded by ₦169.52 billion.

The Speaker has referred the proposals to the relevant House committee for consideration and possible approval.
