Vandals of Electricity Transmission Cables Arrested in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against vandalism of public infrastructure with the arrest of two suspected vandals in Yusufari.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, operatives of the Yusufari Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended two suspects, Kabiru Ibrahim, 23, of Sabon Garin Gashu, and Abubakar Abubakar, 24, of Bade LGA for allegedly dismantling transformer components and cables, causing severe damage at Sunomari area of Yusufari town.
He said the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence and, during interrogation, confessed to the crime. Investigation is ongoing, with a view to charging them to court.
Following the arrest, youths in the community expressed outrage, accusing the suspects of habitual vandalism.
They attempted to lynch the suspects and set ablaze a motorcycle belonging to one of them before police intervention.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act of vandalism and cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
He stressed that the command would not condone vigilantism, assuring that justice would be served through due process.
He further urged residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation.
