Pension Arrears:Federal Pensioners Threaten Nationwide “Symbolic Naked Protest”

The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has threatened to embark on a nationwide “Symbolic Naked Protest”on October 6, 2025, if the Federal Government fails to implement the agreed ₦32,000 pension increment and pay its arrears alongside the promised ₦25,000 palliative in the September pension cycle.

This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the coalition’s meeting held in Lagos on September 9, 2025.

The Communique was signed by the coalition’s National Chairman, Comrade Mukaila Ogunbote, who doubles as the Chairman of NUP Nipost.

The coalition stated that a press conference will be held on September 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. at GPO Marina, Lagos Island at the Ministry of Finance to highlight the group’s grievances to the public and the international community.

The coalition directed all pensioners across the country to commence mobilization and prayers for the success of the protest, while mourning fellow Pensioners who died due to delayed implementation of the increment and palliatives.

“We pray God to spare our lives to collect our money with our own hands and grant eternal rest to pensioners who passed away while waiting for their entitlements,” the communique read.

The coalition warned that failure to meet the demands before the end of September would leave them with no choice but to take to the streets in a peaceful but “symbolic naked protest.”

It, however, commended the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) for restoring the back-end computation in the August pension payment, but urged the agency to immediately settle arrears owed the affected parastatal retirees, stressing that the delay is causing the Pensioners unnecessary hardships.
