The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has continued its inspection of ongoing and completed projects across Yobe State, reaffirming its commitment to rebuilding lives and communities affected by insurgency.

Speaking during the tour of Karasuwa, Nguru and Machina corridor, the NEDC Yobe State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the inspection exercise is part of the Commission’s resolve to ensure quality delivery of projects in line with the approved 2022 North East Stabilisation and Development Masterplan (NESDMP).

Projects inspected include the construction of perimeter wall fencing and a gatehouse at the School of Midwifery, Federal Medical Centre, Nguru; a sickbay and female students’ hostel at the School of Midwifery, Nguru; and blocks of three classrooms each at Kasugula Primary School and Mega School Nguru.

Others are classroom blocks at GDJSS Machina and Bolo Primary School, Machina, as well as blocks of three classrooms at Jajimaji Primary School and Gasma Primary School.

In the water sector, the Commission drilled and installed solar-powered boreholes at Garin Amadu, Izzakari, and Gasma (Karasuwa LGA); Rigan Hardo Doshiro, Kagumsuwa, Mafidu, and Motor Park (Machina LGA); and Billalam Hausawa, Kwanar Dan Iya, Motor Park, Bayan Jinga, Hausari Primary School, College of Health Technology, and Tsangayan Khalifa Goni Fatihu (Nguru LGA).

Prof. Abbas emphasized that these interventions in education and water supply are aimed at addressing critical needs of the people while laying the foundation for sustainable development.

“The NEDC is determined to bring development closer to the people by investing in education, health, and water infrastructure. These projects will not only improve learning environments and access to clean water but also help in building resilience and transforming our communities for a better future,” he stated.

He further commended the visionary leadership of the NEDC Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed Goni Alkali, and his management team for their steadfast commitment to delivering impactful projects across the North East.

According to him, their dedication and effective coordination have ensured that communities in Yobe and beyond continue to benefit from people-oriented interventions.

The ongoing inspection exercise, according to Prof. Abbas, underscores the NEDC’s role in recovery and stabilisation efforts, working towards a peaceful, developed, and prosperous North East after more than a decade of insurgency.
