Over 66,000 Defectors Join APC in Jigawa as Governor Namadi Hosts Grand Rally in Dutse
More than 66,000 members of opposition parties have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, as Governor Malam Umar Namadi led top national and state leaders of the ruling party to receive them during a grand rally held on Saturday at the Dutse Stadium.
The event, which drew thousands of enthusiastic supporters, was described as one of the largest political gatherings in the state’s recent history.
Among dignitaries present were the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda; Yobe State Governor and former APC National Chairman, Mai Mala Buni; the Deputy Governors of Katsina and Sokoto States; Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters; members of the National Assembly, and several other prominent figures.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Mai Mala Buni commended the massive turnout, describing it as a clear demonstration of the people’s confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration. He assured the new entrants of fair treatment and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security, infrastructure, and economic prosperity across the country.
In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, welcomed the defectors and urged party members to remain united and loyal. He said the mass defection reflects the people’s growing trust in the APC-led governments both at the national and state levels.
Governor Umar Namadi disclosed that the defectors were drawn from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), attributing their decision to join the APC to the inclusiveness and impact of his administration’s policies.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening party unity and deepening good governance in Jigawa State while commending President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and dedication to Nigeria’s progress.
The rally concluded with the formal presentation of APC membership flags to representatives of the new members, symbolizing their official integration into the party.
