Recognizing the importance of mental and physical fitness as vital tools for improving combat readiness and operational success, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base Service Group, Kano, on Saturday, organized its last-quarter 10-kilometer walk and jogging exercise for officers, airmen, airwomen, and personnel from other security agencies in Kano.
The event, held within the Air Force Base, brought together participants from various security formations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and wellness in national service.
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Duties, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (Rtd), described the exercise as a celebration of mutual understanding and the spirit of national service.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force in its mission to safeguard lives and property in Kano and across Nigeria.
“This event is not just about physical exercise, but also about building relationships, fostering unity, and promoting a sense of community,” he said.
The Commandant of 455 Base Service Group, Kano, Group Captain Mustapha Sulaiman, noted that physical fitness remains a cornerstone of military effectiveness. He added that regular exercise enhances endurance, teamwork, discipline, and mental resilience — all essential qualities for operational readiness.
“This walking and jogging exercise goes beyond routine training; it symbolizes our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, morale, and performance in service to the nation,” he stated.
This quarter’s exercise was unique as it featured participation from multiple security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Police, Correctional Service, Immigration, Civil Defence Corps, NDLEA, Fire Service, Customs Service, and even pupils from the Air Force Primary School, in a bid to strengthen inter-agency synergy.
In the NAF male category, A.M. Ogujem clinched first place in the 10km jogging event with a finishing time of 27.9 minutes, followed closely by E.O. Chinemere at 28.2 minutes, and A.D. Musa who secured third position with 29.1 minutes.
In the women’s 10km category, Flying Officer A.O. Okpora emerged the winner with an impressive time of 49.50 minutes, while S. Aliyu claimed victory in the men’s walking category.
Among other security agencies, Ibrahim Adam Aliyu from the Correctional Service emerged overall winner in his category.
