By Safiya Usman

The Kano State Government has applauded 63 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for their contributions to environmental development during their one-year service with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

The corps members were presented with their discharge certificates on Saturday at a ceremony held at the KANO-ACReSAL Conference Hall, where officials celebrated their efforts in advancing the ministry’s mandate.

Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, praised the outgoing corps members for their dedication to key environmental initiatives, including afforestation, sanitation exercises, monitoring and supervision, tree planting, and seedlings production.

He said the event was organised to honour their exemplary conduct, noting that none of the corps members recorded any form of misconduct throughout their service year. He urged them to maintain their discipline and commitment as they proceed to the next stage of their careers.

The corps members also presented an award to the Commissioner in appreciation of his support and mentorship. They said his leadership created an enabling environment that helped them contribute productively to the ministry’s programmes.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Shittu Fadlullah thanked the ministry for giving them opportunities to develop their skills. Another corps member, Mary Luca, lauded the commissioner for introducing her to the “Pad a Child Initiative”, which promotes menstrual hygiene and provides sanitary pads to schoolgirls.

The event was concluded with a formal endorsement by Maryam Abdulqadir, Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
