The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Gumel as the institution’s fourth Vice-Chancellor.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Council, Prof. Shu’aibu Abdulrahim, on Saturday in Dutse.
He stated that the approval followed a meeting of the Council held at the university campus in Dutse.
“The selection followed a rigorous and meticulous process in which 21 applicants were shortlisted and interviewed, yet Gumel emerged as the best candidate,” he said.
Abdulrahim added that the appointment will take effect from February 10, 2026.
He congratulated the new Vice-Chancellor and urged him to discharge his duties with diligence and the fear of God.
In his remarks, Prof. Gumel pledged to sustain and build upon the legacy of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Gumel obtained his Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology—specializing in Biocatalysis and Bioprocess Technology—in 2009 and 2013, respectively. He also served as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Malaya in 2014.
