Kano Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers, Cattle Rustlers in Intelligence-Led Operations

The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers during separate intelligence-led operations in Kiru and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrests were made on December 14, 2025, following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) cordoned off Rahma Round in Kiru LGA and apprehended four suspects, including 25-year-old Shafiu Ibrahim of Auchanawa Village, Ikara LGA, Kaduna State. Shafiu confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang and participating in several cattle rustling operations. The police also recovered a TVS motorcycle from him, while investigations are ongoing regarding the involvement of the other three suspects in various felonious activities.

In a related operation, a combined team comprising personnel from the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Tsanyawa Police Division, acting on the Commissioner’s directive, arrested one Bishir Umar, aged 24, of Karaduwa LGA, Katsina State.

He was apprehended at Mahuta Village in Tsanyawa LGA. Bishir confessed that he and his accomplices had entered Kano on two motorcycles with a rifle, intending to carry out criminal activities. He was arrested while conducting surveillance, while his partners fled with the motorcycles and the rifle.

The Police Command stated that all suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
