The Emir of Nguru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mai Mustapha Ibn Kyari, has turbaned Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja as the Tafida of Nguru Emirate Council, in a move widely described as a reinforcement of tradition, leadership, and service to the people of the emirate at large.

The traditional appointment ceremony took place on Wednesday, December 25, at the Emir’s Palace in Nguru, Yobe State, drawing a large gathering of family members, community leaders, friends, associates, and well-wishers, who converged to witness the historic occasion.

The event also recorded the presence of top security representation, as the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shu’aibu, was represented by the Sector Commander, Sector 2, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Beyidi Markus Gura while the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Auwal Zubairu Gambo attended in person.

The presence of the military leadership underscored the growing synergy between traditional institutions and security agencies in sustaining peace and stability across the region.

While performing the turbaning, the Emir of Nguru charged the new Tafida to uphold the values of integrity, loyalty, justice, and service, which the title represents, and to remain committed to supporting the emirate in matters of unity, development, and peaceful coexistence.

The title of Tafida is regarded as one of the important traditional positions within the Nguru Emirate Council, entrusted with advisory responsibilities and community leadership roles.

Observers noted that the choice of Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, a respected technocrat and community figure, reflects the Emirate’s confidence in his capacity to bridge tradition with modern governance ideals.

Following his return home after the palace ceremony, the newly appointed Tafida announced key appointments within his traditional household. He named Muhammad Yusuf Yunusa as the Yerima of Tafida, and Al’amin Mustapha Maihaja as the Majidadi Dadi of Tafida, a move seen as laying a solid foundation for effective coordination and service.

The announcements were met with prayers and goodwill messages from guests and community members, who described the appointments as well-considered and deserving.

Residents of Nguru expressed optimism that the new Tafida would use his position to promote harmony, support youth development, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the emirate.

The ceremony concluded with special prayers for peace, progress, and continued stability in Nguru Emirate, Yobe State, and the nation at large.
