The Ya Zarah Orphan Care Foundation reinforced its commitment to nurturing youth through faith and learning at its 7th Annual Qur’anic Musabaqa and Walima, held on December 27, 2025.
The event took place on Friday brought together Islamic scholars, government officials, traditional leaders, and community members to honor the Qur’anic memorization and recitation achievements of orphans and vulnerable children supported by the foundation.
Founded by Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu (Jarman Potiskum), former Deputy Governor of Yobe State and former federal minister, the foundation focuses on holistic child development through education, religious guidance, and social welfare.
Representing the founder, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Almajiri Commission, emphasized the annual competition is designed to instill a deep connection with the Qur’an, foster discipline, build moral character, and boost self-confidence among the children.
He highlighted the vital role of collaboration with government, religious leaders, and philanthropists in sustaining such faith-based humanitarian work.
Dignitaries in attendance included Alhaji Yusuf Umar, Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-Orientation; Alhaji Aliyu Saleh Bagarai, former Deputy Governor; and Malam Goni Isah Auta, Chief Imam of the Pataskum Emirate.
In their remarks, guests praised the foundation’s consistent dedication to integrating Islamic education with child welfare, calling it a vital model for community development and value-based upbringing.
The ceremony culminated in the presentation of awards and gifts to competition winners, recognizing excellence in Qur’anic recitation and memorization across various categories.
