Sen. Dachungyang Highlights Empowerment, Security Efforts, Bills as achievements

From Tongnaan Bawa, Jos

Senator representing Plateau North, Distinguished Senator (Prince) Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, JP, has outlined his achievements, legislative priorities and security concerns, pledging continued commitment to peace, development and effective representation of his constituents.

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Dachungyang said his emergence into the Senate in February 2024 was divinely orchestrated, describing it as “God’s possible and practical intervention,” and reaffirmed his resolve to serve the people of Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South and Riyom local government areas.

The senator said his agenda is anchored on five pillars: practical representation and community engagement, women and youth empowerment, functional education and critical sector placement, peace and security, and legislative duties.

On community engagement, he recalled embarking on a thank-you tour across the zone, consultations with youth groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders and ethnic associations, and interventions that helped sustain fragile peace in the area.

Dachungyang disclosed that despite not completing a full budget cycle, he utilized zonal intervention and supplementary budget provisions to empower over 900 women and youths through agricultural training, starter packs, cash support, fertilizer distribution and the provision of special-purpose tricycles.

He also facilitated the completion of a skills acquisition centre in Riyom and secured pensionable jobs and federal placements for several constituents.

In education, the senator said he paid WAEC fees for secondary school students, settled tuition for Plateau North students at the Maritime Academy, Oron, and supported others at the Aviation College, Zaria, alongside assistance to pupils and students at various levels. He also highlighted his sponsorship of national sports events, including cycling and badminton competitions hosted in Plateau State.

On agriculture, health and power, Dachungyang said he has consistently supported farmers with inputs, attracted health sector interventions in the 2025 budget, and facilitated the provision of transformers and solar street lights to communities, with Riyom already benefiting.

Addressing insecurity, the senator described the situation in Plateau North as disturbing, saying he has engaged stakeholders discreetly and reported attacks to the National Assembly, contributing to the push for a National Security Summit.

He warned perpetrators of violence to desist and reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace and reviving tourism in the state in collaboration with Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

On legislation, Dachungyang said he participated in the 2025 budget process, noting that capital projects are scheduled to commence in January 2026.

He disclosed that he has sponsored two bills seeking to upgrade the National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom, and Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, to federal universities.
He also announced his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism and listed his membership of several key Senate committees, assuring constituents that he remains focused on delivering dividends of democracy.

The senator expressed optimism about the future of Plateau North, calling for unity and prayers for lasting peace and development.
