A staff member of Premier Radio, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Ibrahim, has organized a one-day training session on Menstrual Health and Hygiene for selected male and female participants in Kano State.

The training, which focused on breaking myths, building confidence, and promoting healthy menstrual practices through practical and inclusive discussions, was attended by experts and representatives from various community organizations.

PRIME TIME NEWS reports that the session, held on Sunday at PR Nigeria’s Kano Office, also explored ways to support underprivileged women with reusable sanitary pads.

In his remarks, the organizer of the program, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Ibrahim of the News Department, Premier Radio Kano, said the aim of the event was to educate participants and emphasize the role of men in supporting women during their menstrual periods.

Aminu further explained that poor menstrual hygiene practices could lead to serious health issues, noting that what people often refer to as body odour is usually a result of unhygienic practices.

He added that every three months, he plans to organize similar programs to educate and support women, as well as offer prayers for them.

One of the facilitators, Hajiya Amina Sabiu Musa, described menstrual health as a community concern. She expressed satisfaction with the program’s inclusivity, bringing together men and women to discuss challenges and understand the changes women experience during menstruation.

Speaking on the issue of shyness regarding menstrual discussions, she emphasized that such silence must be broken, noting that “any shyness that affects one’s health is not proper.”

She also urged parents to remember that their children are a trust from God and must be raised with good moral values.

Similarly, Maryam Abbas Muhammad, who spoke on menstrual hygiene, called on the public to support less privileged women with sanitary pads to help them prevent infections.

She added that many women are in need of both education and access to reusable sanitary pads.

A participant during the training, Tukur S. Tukur, also suggested that even when preparing marriage items, sanitary pads should be included.

Highlights of the event included the distribution of 20 free reusable sanitary pads to participants and a practical demonstration on their proper use.
