2027: Ebu stakeholders demand Oshimili North LG Chairmanship position

By Arinze Sunday, Asaba

Ahead of the 2027 Chairmanship elections across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State, stakeholders in the Ebu community of Oshimili North LGA of the state, have demanded that the community be given the opportunity to produce the next Chairman of the Council after the expiration of Hon. Esewezie Innocent’s tenure.

The stakeholders under the aegis of Ebu Sons and Daughters Forum made the demand in a press statement made available to Journalists by the spokesperson of the group, Collins Chetuni in Asaba, the Delta State capital on Sunday.

According to him, since the return of Democracy in 1999, the people of Ebu have been completely neglected by successive administrations in the area of handling sensitive positions in government, hence the reason for their demand.

He said, “Going down memory lane, you would observe that no indigene of Ebu had been appointed as a Commissioner in the state, nor elected as a Local Government Chairman or House of Assembly member representing Oshimili North.

“The Ebu people consider this neglect by the successive administrations as deliberate because despite several promises during political stakeholders meetings and electioneering campaigns by top government officials in times past to address this anomaly, Ebu as a people and as a community still remained at the backseat when it concerns occupying leadership positions in Delta State.

“This marginalization has to come to an end. Ebu as a community has educated, competent and qualified people to lead in various capacities, and therefore we will not allow this neglect to continue.

“Ebu will henceforth, not only be remembered when votes are needed by the various politicians, and completely forgotten immediately after the elections are won. We have been patient enough on the continued neglect, but our loyalty and simplicity should not be taken for stupidity.

“Our people have taken note of this and have decided to collaborate with only political leaders who have our interest at heart.”

The spokesperson of the Forum, commended the current Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Esewezie Innocent for the construction of several units of open market stalls, among other projects that he had embarked upon in the Ebu community.

According to him, the Oshimili North LGA Chairman has proven beyond every reasonable doubts that he is ready to serve his people following the construction and rehabilitation of several projects scattered across the length and breathe of the LGA.

Therefore, to consolidate on his numerous achievements, Chetuni appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to use the opportunity of the forthcoming Local Government elections to correct the political injustice that had been done to the people of Ebu for many years by ensuring that someone from the community is given the needed support to contest for the Chairmanship position and emerge victoriously.

He emphasised that the Chairmanship position operates on rotation, and therefore it is the turn of Ebu to present a competent leader who would take the Council to greater heights.

The spokesperson of the Ebu Sons and Daughters Forum further called on leaders of the various political parties in the Oshimili North Constituency and the entire stakeholders to give maximum support in the community’s quest of seeking for the Chairmanship position of the Local Government in year 2027.

“The Forum recognises the fatherly role being played by the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in carrying all Deltans along in his peace and development drives. We are confident that as a father, he will hear our complaints and work towards meeting our demand.

‎”The Forum encourages all politicians and political actors from the Delta North Senatorial District and Oshimili North Local Government Area to align their ambitions and interests with this collective position of the Ebu people.”

‎”The Forum calls on all Sons and Daughters of Ebu both home and in diaspora, to unite and work together towards the realisation of this common goal.

‎”The Forum urges all leaders of the community to reach out to leaders and well-wishers from across the Oshimili North LGA to extend their support for the Ebu’s chairmanship bid in order to ensure a brighter future for all our communities,” the statement added.
