The North East Development Commission (NEDC) on Thursday officially handed over the construction of two major infrastructure projects in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The flagship project is a new 2.5-kilometer road, complete with a bridge, designed to link the Kara, Masaka, and Mazaga communities in the Masaka area of Potiskum Local Government Area.
Simultaneously, the commission launched the construction of a separate bridge in the Tandari area of Potiskum town.
The Managing Director and CEO of the NEDC, Mohammad Goni Alkali, emphasized that the projects are a core part of the Commission’s efforts in partnership with the Yobe State Government.
Represented by the Yobe State NEDC Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, Alkali stated that the work is a direct part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for rebuilding the Northeast.
“This is a community with a history. But over the years, there has been no linkage via this road between these neighboring and adjacent communities,” said Alkali.”
He further stated that, what the North East Development Commission is doing is opening up these areas for easier and safer transportation of goods and services, for better access to healthcare, to schools, to markets, as well as for other activities vital to human livelihood and development.
Alkali expressed confidence that the project would be a catalyst for growth, adding,”So once this project is completed, I am sure the socio-economic development of the people of Potiskum will greatly improve, in shallah.”
The contractor handling the project, Gao Kum, assured the community of timely and quality delivery, pledging to hand over the completed work within 10 months.
