Governor Mai Mala Buni has officially inaugurated the permanent site of the Yobe State University (YSU) Biomedical Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), hailed as a landmark investment for locally-led scientific breakthroughs.
At the same occasion ,Governor Buni celebrated with the three Yobe indigenes Nafisa Abdullahi, Hadiza Kashim kalli, and Rukaiya Mohamed Fema who triumphed against 20,000 contestants from 69 countries to win the TeenEagle 2025 World Championship in London.
In a major announcement, Governor Buni awarded each of the three champions a full government scholarship up to the tertiary level and a personal donation of N10 million.
Highlighting the centre’s strategic importance, Governor Buni stated the BioRTC is designed to address Africa’s unique health challenges,moving away from dependency on foreign research models.
The Governor revealed that the state government invested over N800 million to construct the centre’s permanent site, which was further boosted by a N10 billion equipment donation from Professor Mahmoud Bukar Maina.
Governor Buni directly appealed to the Federal Government to establish a national kidney disease centre in Yobe State to combat the deadly scourge.
He also called on the Federal Ministry of Health to partner with the BioRTC to adopt its low-cost diagnostic innovations for nationwide use.
Linking the event to his administration’s broader agenda, the Governor reiterated Yobe’s commitment to education, citing over N13.5 billion in annual spending on scholarships, exam fees, and school feeding programs.
He affirmed that basic and secondary education remain free for all children in the state.
According to Governor.Buni,the new BioRTC stands as Yobe’s flagship institution aiming to place Nigeria on the global map of knowledge production while solving pressing local health issues.
