The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Global Environment Facility-United Nations Industrial Development Organization (GEF-UNIDO) have urged industries to prioritize energy efficiency and eco-friendly practices in Nigeria.
The call was made by the Vice Chairman MAN, Ali Madugu, and the National Technical Coordinator of the GEF-UNIDO, IEE Dr. Oluwasegun Osidipe
while speaking at the opening of the public-private sector policy dialogue session for industrialists and stakeholders under the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (GEF-UNIDO) in Kano.
In his remarks, the vice president urged industries to embrace the environment friendly methods of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) as well as Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) for sustainability.
“The implementation of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) marks a moment of sustainability that drives growth and drives the system for coming generations.
“As we embrace energy efficiency we also control the emission of CO2 into our environment, thereby becoming environment friendly.
“Let us embrace this new platform to set our businesses forward and create a cleaner Nigeria” he stated.
On his side the National Technical Coordinator of the GEF-UNIDO, IEE and RECP, Oluwasegun Osidipe, explained the benefit of embracing the energy efficiency techniques.
He said that products can be accepted or rejected when exported to some countries depending on whether the production went through an energy efficient system.
In his speech, the Director Industries of the Kano Ministry of Investments, Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Mahmud Bala, expressed appreciations for the sustainability techniques that will properly manage energy and improve output.
