The Federal House of Representatives has appointed Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, Member Representing Gummi/Bukkuyum federal constituency as the Chairman, Northwest Development Commission in a unanimous decision at the last plenary session.
This was contained in a statement made available to Journalists in Gusau by the Spokesperson to Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, Malam Bello Naallah.
According to him, the North West Development Commission (NWDC) is a regional development initiative established by the Federal Government under the Ministry of Regional Development, comprising seven North Western states: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
The NWDC focuses on Infrastructure Development, Human Capital Development, Agriculture and Agribusiness, Security and Peace building and Socioeconomic Empowerment.
The aiming is to transform the regional economy, which currently contributes around 20% to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Products, GDP, with immense potential in agriculture, trade, and livestock.
The House of Representatives established a standing committee to oversee the commission’s activities, and Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, a proud indigene and prominent son of Zamfara State, was appointed the Chairman saddled with the duties of ensuring due process and adherence to the rules of law and regulations.
Given his success in chairing the House Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations in the 9th Assembly, his appointment is deemed fitting and we’ll deserved.
As a talented and strategic lawmaker, Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi’s leadership will significantly impact the NWDC and indeed Zamfara State by addressing developmental challenges and unlocking economic growth.
The NWDC, in collaboration with the Senate and House committees, alongside the seven member state Governors, has conducted a development summit on Saturday, 31st January 2026, marking another step towards the commission’s success.
We pray that, the Almighty Allah continues to guide and protect Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi in his national assignment.
