Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed all public and private schools in the state to commence an emergency mid-term break with immediate effect due to prevailing security concerns.
The directive, which takes effect from Wednesday, February 4, 2026, was conveyed through an urgent notice issued by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter. No resumption date has been announced.
In the notice signed by the State Chairman of NAPPS, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, school owners were warned to strictly comply with the order or risk losing their operating approvals.
“This is an important information and announcement from the Executive Governor of Kogi State. All schools in Kogi State must go on emergency mid-term break on Wednesday, 4/02/2026. Don’t announce resumption because we don’t know yet what will happen before Monday,” the statement read.
“Please strictly comply with this directive; if not, your approval will be revoked.”
The notice further clarified that the decision was taken “due to security issues.”
Authorities described the move as a precautionary emergency measure, noting that the situation remains fluid and unpredictable. School administrators have been advised not to announce any tentative resumption date until further notice.
Parents and guardians have been urged to remain calm and monitor official government communication channels for updates on when schools will reopen.
The directive applies to all schools across the state, and compliance, authorities said, is mandatory.
