Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe of the Adamawa Southern Senatorial district has insisted that, the National Assembly has approved the Continuation of the transmission of election results at the recent amendment of the electoral Act.
Senator Yaroe gave his affirmation in an interview with journalists in Demsa local government area while reacting to the
position ascribed to a group of Senators who addressed a press conference recently in Abuja alleging fraudulent changes in the amended act which generated widespread condemnations from Nigerians.
Yaroe clarified that the two bodies of the National Assembly have approved the Continuation of electronic transmission of election results contrary to what was being speculated on the social media which to him are “misleading, absurd and unfounded”.
He asserted that, as a member of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, he was actively involved in the review of the 2022 Electoral Act emphasizing that both chambers of the National Assembly, through joint committee engagements, retreats, and consultations held in Abuja and Lagos, unanimously recommended electronic transmission of election results.
“I was part of the entire process. The joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives recommended electronic transmission, and that recommendation formed part of the final report presented to the Senate,” Yaroe stated.
He added that an ad-hoc committee later set up to reviewed the grey areas in the report and also reaffirmed electronic transmission as part of the amended law opining that confusion arose due to misinterpretation and misinformation, particularly on social media.
He stressed that the Senate leadership, including the Senate President, publicly confirmed the approval, noting that the matter would be conclusively resolved once the official votes and proceedings are released.
“People should not believe everything they read on social media. We are making progress, not going backwards,” he advised.
