The Zamfara State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi, has announced his readiness to inspect 25 ongoing projects in Zamfara state metropolis currently implemented by the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal.
The aim of this inspection is to assess work quality, monitor progress, ensure compliance with approved standards, encourage performing contractors and revoke projects from ailing contractors.
The commissioner who was accompanied by senior officials of the ministry, inspected 10 major projects on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, describing the tour as part of deliberate efforts by the Ministry to strengthen supervision, promptly address challenges, and guarantee value for public funds.
While addressing journalists, the Honourable Commissioner, Alhaji Nasiru Zurmi said the initiative was as a result of projects review and assessment process the ministry had with the project contractors to ascertain the successful completion of the projects within the agreed time limit.
When inspecting the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the reconstruction work at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Police Headquarters and Central Police Station, the ongoing construction of medical personnel accommodation at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, and renovation and re-equipping of the last phase at the JB Secretariat project, the commissioner expressed satisfaction at the level and quality of work going on at the sites.
Alhaji Zurmi raised serious concerns over substandard work observed at a High Court project, noting that the contractor failed to comply strictly with approved specifications.
Furthermore, the commissioner inspected ongoing reconstruction of 10 years abandoned 8 classrooms project and construction of offices at Federal University Gusau, Trailer park project and construction/ renovation of Zamfara Electrification Agency, ZEA and Zamfara Housing Cooperation. He also expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work carried out at the sites.
He urged contractors to relate with the ministry directly in order to facilitate the timely delivery of the projects. He assured them that the ministry is ready and prepared to administer quick response to their challenges anytime of the day.
Alhaji Nasiru Zurmi reiterated the commitment of his Ministry to deliver quality infrastructure development, with proven durability standards and accountability in conformity to the Agenda of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal.
