The Kano State Fire Service, under the leadership of its Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, has successfully contained two separate fire outbreaks that occurred within the space of one hour in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the two incidents happened between 4:28 a.m. and 4:32 a.m. at different locations across the state.
The first incident occurred at Kasuwar Yan Katako, Rijiyar Lemo in Ungogo Local Government Area. The Service’s Control Room reportedly received a distress call from one Kabiru Nafi’u at about 4:28 a.m., alerting officials to a fire outbreak at the timber market.
Firefighters from Dawanau, Rijiyar Zaki, and Bompai Fire Stations were swiftly mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a timber market measuring about 500 by 500 feet engulfed in flames.
The inferno affected 30 permanent shops and 55 temporary structures, all of which were completely razed. Three fire trucks — Com 23, Com 17, and Com 2 — were deployed in the operation. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as investigations are ongoing.
The second incident occurred just minutes later at Zamson Filling Station along Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Fagge Local Government Area.
Fire Service officials said they received another emergency call from PFS II Muhammad Wada Abdussalam, reporting a blaze at the station. Firefighters from the Service Headquarters were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found a petrol tanker with registration number AA 12 XD on fire during fuel offloading into an underground storage tank.
Thanks to the swift intervention of the firemen, the blaze — which slightly damaged parts of the tanker — was quickly contained, preventing a potentially devastating explosion. Two fire trucks, Com 1 and Com 1B, were deployed for the operation.
The statement commended the professionalism of the firefighters for their quick response, which saved a significant quantity of petroleum product and prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the station.
In a public safety advisory, the Kano State Fire Service urged filling station operators and tanker drivers to strictly adhere to safety protocols during fuel transfer and handling of flammable materials.
Traders were also reminded to always inspect electrical connections and appliances before closing their shops to prevent fire outbreaks.
The Service further emphasized the importance of prompt reporting in minimizing damage and saving lives, urging residents to call 08107888878 or 07026026400 in case of fire emergencies.
