The Young Female Professionals in Media has expressed sorrow over the fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano, describing the incident as a major setback for traders and families who depend on the market for their livelihoods.
In a statement issued Friday and signed by its chairperson, Maryam Usman Nagado, the group said the fire caused heavy losses to traders, many of whom are small-scale entrepreneurs and women running businesses that support their households.
Singer Market serves as a key commercial hub for hundreds of traders in Kano, and the destruction threatens economic stability within the community, the statement said.
The organization extended sympathy to all those affected and expressed solidarity with traders and workers impacted by the incident.
YFPM called on the Federal Fire Service and the Kano State Fire Service to sustain efforts to fully contain the situation.
It also urged humanitarian organizations, civil society groups, corporate bodies and individuals to mobilize emergency assistance, including medical support and financial relief for affected traders.
The group called for coordinated action by government and private sector stakeholders to develop a recovery plan to help victims rebuild their businesses.
YFPM said it would continue to use its platform to amplify the voices of those affected and advocate for swift intervention.
