As part of its continuous efforts to appreciate the contributions of journalists to its work, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has distributed food items, including spaghetti and sugar, to the media team covering its activities in Kano.
The gesture, which took place on Thursday at CITAD’s Kano office, is part of the organisation’s annual Ramadan tradition, a symbolic act of gratitude and solidarity with journalists during the holy month.
PRIME TIME NEWS reports that, Ramadan, a sacred period observed by Muslims worldwide, is dedicated to compassion, selflessness, and generosity, values which CITAD said align with its own principles of social responsibility and community engagement.
Leading the distribution, the Executive Director of CITAD, Engr. Y.Z. Ya’u, said the initiative reflects the Centre’s appreciation for the media’s role in advancing public awareness and promoting civic participation.
According to him, the journalists serve as important partners in amplifying the organisation’s advocacy on digital inclusion, good governance, gender equality, and youth empowerment.
“We consider the media as part of the CITAD family. They have been instrumental in communicating our programs and shaping narratives that promote accountability, innovation, and social change” Engr. Ya’u stated.
“This simple token is our way of saying thank you for your professionalism, for your consistency, and for helping us reach communities across Nigeria with our message of digital empowerment and civic engagement,” he added.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the event expressed appreciation to CITAD for the support, describing it as a rare and commendable show of recognition.
One of the correspondents remarked that CITAD’s consistency in reaching out to journalists during Ramadan reflects genuine respect for the media’s contribution to democratic growth and public enlightenment.
