A police officer, DSP Mohammed Ladan, has supported 140 orphans with clothes to enable them celebrate Sallah in Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Speaking during the distribution, DSP Mohammed Ladan said he was motivated to carry out the gesture with the help of Allah SWT and the support of his wife, Hajiya Nadiya, who also contributed to ensure the orphans are happy and able to celebrate the Sallah festival like other children whose parents are alive.
According to him, he did not undertake the initiative because he is a police officer, but as a member of the community who felt it was necessary to contribute, especially to the wellbeing of orphans in the area.
He added that the gesture would help the orphans feel that they are valued members of the community and have not been forgotten.
DSP Ladan therefore called on wealthy individuals to show greater commitment in supporting the vulnerable in society, particularly as the Sallah celebration approaches, in order to ease their hardship and bring them joy.
The support provided by the police officer is valued at over N1.5 million. About 90 girls received a wrapper each along with money for sewing, while 50 boys were given pieces of cloth which would be taken to tailors for sewing.
The event was attended by several dignitaries from Jakusko town, including the Lawan of the town, the Chief Imam, and other community leaders. They expressed delight over the initiative, describing it as rare, especially coming from a security officer serving the community as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Jakusko Local Government Area.
One of the beneficiaries, Auwal Ibrahim, thanked the police officer for the support, noting that it came at a time when it was greatly needed.
Residents of Jakusko also commended the gesture and prayed to Allah SWT to reward him abundantly.
