By Abdullahi Yusuf
The Kano State 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme is being successfully implemented, with the beneficiaries of the gesture getting quality meals for their Iftar (Breakfast).
The State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Tijjani Auwal, made the remarks while monitoring the cooking and packaging of the Ramadan meals at one of the Restaurants contracted for the exercise, in the state capital.
“The quality and quantity of the meals being served under this Ramadan Feeding Programme are superb and appreciated by the beneficiaries whom are largely the underprivileged.
“Since the beginning of the Ramadan fast we have been going around the local government areas, monitoring the quality and quantity of the food being delivered at each centre and making sure that the food is not diverted,” Sheikh Auwal said.
He also expressed satisfaction with the hygienic condition of the cooking centres and the meals being served, adding that the situation comformed with the standards given to the kitchens.
He said five major companies are handling the exercise delivering tens of thousands of packs of food across the serving centres, everyday.
The commissioner also stated that apart from the religious spirit of the Feeding Programme, there is also the socio-economic impact of the exercise on the society.
According to him,the Programme had generated employment for multitudes of young men and women whom are engaged in the cooking, packaging and distribution of the meals, earning money to take care of their basic needs.
“This is in addition to the bulk purchase of the foodstuff by the companies handling the programme, including the grains, meat and condiments from our markets, the economic multiplier effects of which are very huge,”he said.
Socially, Sheikh Auwal explained, the Feeding Programme brings people together from various locations to receive the quality meals, forgetting about their political differences.
“Everywhere we go you see how people are happy receiving the food. So, this brings people together to know that there is a government that cares about the poor; to know that there is a government that really wants something good for the people,” the commissioner added.
