In a notable realignment of political forces in Yobe State, Dr. Ali Adamu Tikau, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The defection ceremony took place on Monday in his hometown of Tikau, located in the Nangere Local Government Area.
Dr. Tikau was accompanied by a large number of his supporters and loyalists.
Dr. Tikau, who previously served as the Executive Secretary of the National Primary Education Commission and was a gubernatorial aspirant in the 2011 and 2023 elections, formally ended his tenure with the PDP.
In a symbolic gesture, he surrendered his PDP membership card to the ward executives, handing it over to Samaila Jalamawa, the Chairman of the PDP Tikau ward, and the ward Secretary.
Immediately following this,he solidified his new political allegiance by receiving his ADC membership card. The card was presented to him by Babangida Dagare, the representative of the ADC Chairman, alongside other ward officials including Youth Leader Ali Garba Tikau, Organizing Secretary Salisu Ibrahim, and Adamu Hassan.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Dr. Tikau explained that the decision was a collective one made with his supporters to pursue new avenues for progress.
“Having served the PDP peacefully for many years, we have collectively resolved to join the ADC to foster comprehensive development for our community.
“We are fully committed to working diligently to ensure the success of the ADC in all elections, from the local to the national level, come 2027,”he said.
This development marks a significant shift in the region’s political dynamics, highlighting the ongoing realignments as parties and stakeholders position themselves ahead of the next general election.
