Eid-el-Ftr:FFS Kano Command Urges Fire Safety Amid Intense Heat

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kano Command, under the leadership of the State Controller, Amb. Kazeem Sholadoye Oyefola, felicitates with the Muslim Ummah in Kano State as the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close and the joyous celebration of Eid-el-Fitr approaches.

Al-Hassan Ahmad Kantin.
“As this festive period coincides with intense heat conditions currently being experienced across the State, the Command expresses concern over the increased risk of fire outbreaks, which have been occurring intermittently in recent times.
“In view of this, the Federal Fire Service, Kano Command, strongly urges residents to adhere strictly to fire safety measures to prevent avoidable incidents that may result in loss of lives and property,” Kantin said.
The Command also advised the public to observe the necessary safety precautions including avoiding Overloading Electrical Sockets.
“Do not connect multiple high-power appliances to a single socket, as this may lead to overheating and electrical fires.Switch Off Electrical Appliances When Not in Use: Ensure all electrical appliances are turned off, especially when leaving home or going to bed.
“Handle Cooking Activities with Care: Never leave cooking unattended. Always turn off gas cylinders and stoves after use.
“Proper Storage of Flammable Materials: Keep petrol, kerosene, and gas cylinders away from heat sources and direct sunlight.Ensure Good Ventilation: High temperatures can increase pressure in gas cylinders. Store them in well-ventilated areas.
“Keep Fire Extinguishers Handy: Homes, shops, and event centers are encouraged to have functional fire extinguishers and basic firefighting equipment.
“Avoid Bush Burning and Open Flames: Refrain from indiscriminate burning of refuse or bush, especially during this dry and windy season.
“Check Electrical Installations: Engage qualified electricians to inspect faulty wiring, especially in homes and business premises.
“Safe Use of Generators: Always place generators outdoors and away from buildings to prevent overheating and fire risks.
‘Supervise Children: Prevent children from playing with matches, lighters, or any flammable substances Ensure Access for Emergency Response: Do not block access roads, hydrants, or fire service routes, especially in crowded areas and markets.
“Prompt Reporting of Fire Incidents: In case of any fire outbreak, immediately alert the Federal Fire Service or the nearest fire station for swift response.”
“The State Controller reassured the public of the Command’s readiness and commitment to safeguarding lives and property at all times. Firefighters have been placed on high alert to respond promptly to emergencies throughout the festive period.
