The Kano State Hisbah Board has denied a report published by a social media platform claiming that the Board had arrested a Local Government Chairman along with one of his associates in a hotel.
The board’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Auwalu Ado Sheshe, made the denial in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday.
“The report is false and has no basis whatsoever. It was fabricated to tarnish the image of the Board, Islam, Muslims, and the people of the state.
“What actually happened was that the Board received complaints from residents of Kureken Sani area in Kumbotso Local Government Area regarding immoral activities taking place at a hotel known as Stephrica Guest Palace Ltd,” Sheshe said.
Consequently, he said, the board carried out a raid on the hotel under the leadership of Chief Superintendent of Hisbah, Hafizu Garba Adakawa, and that during the operation, 21 individuals were arrested (10 males and 11 females), aged between 15 and 35.
He said the operation also led to the arrest of the hotel manager, Chijioke Nweke, a hotel staff member, and the hotel owner, Asuzu Jeffrey.
“They were arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 5, Gyadi-Gyadi, to face the consequences of their actions. Investigations revealed that the hotel was being operated without official approval,” the director said.
He noted that the court sentenced them to one year imprisonment or a fine of ₦100,000, and the hotel was shut down.
Additionally, he said,14 offenders were sentenced to three months imprisonment each or a fine of ₦30,000.
“The Kano State Hisbah Board reiterates its commitment to combating immoral behavior and misconduct in the state. It also calls on parents to properly guide and monitor their children,” the statement added.
