The Yobe State Police Command has commenced activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, celebrated annually on April 7th.
Under this year’s theme,“Community Partnership: Building Trust,” the command carried out an environmental sanitation exercise across major areas of the state and a medical outreach at the Muhammadu Buhari Ultra Modern Market in Damaturu.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) Musa Waziri, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the outreach and sanitation are part of pre main day activities.
“We have engaged in general cleaning of the town and are providing free medical assistance to poor people who cannot afford it.That is the purpose it is done yearly,” he said.
The DCP added that the outreach has recorded a large turnout. “People are coming in large numbers, and they are impressed by the police action to provide free medical service to the poor.”
He also disclosed that in the coming days, the command would present cheques to families of officers who died in service.
“The Inspector General of Police has made provision for that. Tomorrow and the day after, we are going to give their families cheques that will ease the hardship they face in the absence of the breadwinner,”said the DCP.
Wazuri urged the public to cooperate with the police. “Police are not their enemies;police are their friends. Those who want free medical attention should come forward, get tested, and drugs will be provided,”said Waziri.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to professional policing and community partnership, and encouraged residents to support security efforts with timely information.
