The Kano State Police Command has held a roundtable discussion with members of the Kano Network of NGOs (KANET) as part of efforts to prevent election violence in the state.
PRIME TIME NEWS gathered that the meeting, held at the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, was part of the Command’s National Police Day 2026 celebration activities.
According to a statement signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, the essence of the session was to develop a comprehensive action plan to sensitize the public on the dangers of election violence and promote peaceful electioneering processes.
CP Bakori stressed the need for collective efforts between the Police Command and CSOs to ensure a peaceful and violence-free electoral process, and identify key areas of collaboration between both parties to achieve this goal.
He assured the CSOs of the Command’s commitment to working together to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the upcoming elections.
Speaking at the session, Barrister Nura Ahmad Muhammad, Chairman of KANET, commended the Police for the initiative, saying, “This roundtable is a welcome step in building trust between security agencies and civil society actors. Our network is ready to collaborate with the Police to ensure a violence-free election in Kano.”
On her part, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, Co-Chair of KANET, highlighted the role of NGOs in community engagement, saying, “We see ourselves as partners in peace. Through awareness campaigns and community sensitization, KANET will support the Police in promoting peaceful voting practices.”
Speaking earlier, Dr. Musa Abdullahi Sufi, a technical adviser to KANET, called on the Kano Police Command to come up with initiatives to further engage with the citizens on ways to address political thuggery in Kano, emphasizing the importance of working with grassroots for enhanced community peace and security.
The CSOs in attendance, comprising youth organizations, PWDs, women organizations, and many more, all reiterated their commitment to supporting Police in Kano for better security.
