From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna
The co-recipient of the Commonwealth Peace Prize, Rev. Dr. James Wuye, has commended KADCCAM for its commitment to promoting awareness on climate change accountability through both online and offline media platforms.
During a brief meeting at Teku International Farms, Kaduna, Reverend Dr. Wuye praised KADCCAM for utilizing various communication channels to educate the general public on the harmful effects of environmental pollution, while also raising awareness on the need to mitigate bush burning.
He stated that he has been following the activities of KADCCAM through newspapers, radio, and online news platforms, noting the organization’s advocacy efforts directed at ministries and stakeholders on environmental protection, as well as its engagement with civil society organizations.
Rev. Dr. Wuye further commended the Kaduna State Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Abubakar Buba, along with members of KADCCAM, for their contributions toward making Kaduna State better.
He appealed to citizens to support government efforts aimed at protecting the environment against all forms of degradation.
Responding, Ibrahim Yakubu, Co-Chair of the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism, said protecting the environment is a collective responsibility. He stressed the need to safeguard Kaduna State against ecological challenges and environmental degradation affecting humans and other living organisms.
Yakubu also appreciated the Commonwealth Peace Prize co-recipient for his efforts in encouraging innovative ideas to protect the environment.
He added that since the launching of KADCCAM by the Kaduna State Government, the organization has carried out several advocacy and media campaigns aimed at environmental protection.
He called on civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and religious leaders to join the campaign against desertification, deforestation, gully erosion, and other forms of environmental degradation affecting both humans and the ecosystem.
It could be recalled that the Commonwealth Peace Prize is part of a multi-phase collaboration between the Khalili Foundation and the Commonwealth Secretariat to support and amplify peacebuilding initiatives across the 56 member states.
In 2025, Rev. Dr. James Wuye and Imam Nuraini Ashafa were recipients of the award from Nigeria.
